However, what would happen over time is bumps would form in the drywall around the nails and the nails will pop out, often months or years after being put in place, leaving behind holes in your walls.

Drywalls screws, on the other hand, are specifically engineered to stay in place. Drywall screws will not pop out of place; they will stay nice and tight inside of the drywall.

You can also use a power drill to attach drywall screws. If you use a power drill instead of an electric screw gun, choose a drill bit that is equal or close to the depth you need to drill into the drywall. If you drill too deep, you can actually shatter the drywall.

The exact screw that you use for your drywall depends upon the thickness of the drywall. You need to know how thick the drywall is in order to purchase the right drywall screws. The thickness of the drywall impacts how far the screw has to go in order to attach to the wall studs behind the drywall, which is why the thickness of the drywall is so important.

Drywall screws are specifically engineered to hold drywall securely to a wall stud. Drywall screws will not pop out over time like nails in drywall do. One size doesn't fit all, however, so you have to pick the right size screw based on the thickness of the drywall. When hanging lots of drywall, it is best to use an electric screw gun or a power drill for attaching all the drywall screws.
